Step 3 You will then return to the Directorate of the Army Legal Service to complete your legal training, which will take approximately 6 weeks. You will learn all about the areas of law you need as a lawyer, including military law, the law of armed conflict, international humanitarian law and intelligence law. Step 1 As a lawyer, you will complete 9 months of training before moving on to your first legal role. During your first two weeks, you will complete your initial training and administration at the Army Legal Services Branch. In addition to their recognized role as technical experts, legal administrators provide their organizations with experience and leadership that plays a critical role in accomplishing the mission. Finally, legal administrators supervise and direct officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers and individuals in the military. Holistically, the legal administrator assigned to a business unit is a technical expert, a head of the legal department, a consultant and a manager. What is a JAGC Warrant Officer?: A JAGC Warrant Officer or Legal Administrator is a technical expert, a legal office manager and an advisor in the most diverse, complex and demanding legal practice in the world.
JAGC warrant officers are important facilitators. They are members of the Executive Team of the Office of the Judge Advocate who manages the operations, systems and resources for the delivery of legal services. Through a unique combination of leadership and technical insight, general counsel advance the business to more effectively manage risk, monitor compliance, improve systems, and integrate technologies to support legal transactions across operations. The Legal Administrator is the third member of the management team of the Office of the Staff Judge Lawyer (OSJA) and the official in charge of the Administrative Department. Legal administrators contribute to and support the training requirements of OSJA staff. The Legal Administrator establishes and maintains effective working relationships with key personnel throughout the operational area so that OSJA staff can meet the requirements of their mission. Our warrant officers operate, manage and support the legal services of our combat forces around the world by leveraging rigorously trained technical expertise combined with leadership attributes, ensuring an army JAG corps that is ready, globally deployable and regionally engaged. Step 4 You will then spend three months with a combat or combat support unit, learn about the military, and gain experience in life as a young officer, all from a non-legal perspective. This is an important part of the training and gives you the opportunity to learn more about the organization that will be recommended to you. MOS Waiver: Soldiers who do not possess any of the listed power MOUs may be eligible for a pro-favored waiver of the MOS requirement if the local SJA, LOD Commander, or state SJA supports a waiver. AJS or LOD Commanders may communicate their support to the proponent as part of their interview memorandum. AJS or LOD commanders who are not in favour of a MOS proponent waiver for an applicant are not required to conduct an interview. The legal administrators will review the candidate and decide on its viability BEFORE conducting the interview. The interview may be refused due to the initial screening.
